For many women, giving birth is an emotional, life-changing event.
Happiness, fear and hope are just a few of the sensations that may accompany the first pangs of labor. Not surprisingly, that equation often includes stress as one enters the sterile environment of a hospital and prepares for delivery.
There are forms to fill out, decisions to make and procedures to follow.
Some Muslim women will take on the additional task of educating those in charge of their care on issues such as hijab – modest dress that includes the headscarf or veil – halal food – food that is permissible to eat – and aspects of the sunnah – traditions of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him – they wish to practice, such as reciting the Muslim call to prayer in the newborn’s ear.
The issue of modesty is often the hardest to tackle.

Children are a source of delight and an adornment for the world granted by Allâh to their parents, they give vigour to the hearts, joy to the souls, pleasure to the eyes. They are the fruit from whom good is to be hoped for when they frequently supplicate:
"Our Lord! Bestow on them your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small"
and they are the ones in every nation upon whom hope for the future lies, and they are the youth of tomorrow upon whose shoulders the call to Islâm is carried. Indeed Islâm has indeed elevated the status of children and has laid down manners for their treatment relating to all their affairs and each stage of their and from these are the manners for welcoming their arrival in this life.

Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem, in the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
My journey to Islam alhamdulilah began after September 11, a time when many who had never heard of Islam were becoming more interested in what the religion was really all about. Many people at the time, including myself, had this notion that Islam was about killing and hatred, a religion of male domination and oppression of women. A few months after September 11, I decided to look into Islam and see what the religion really taught its followers—I had a very open mind and was willing to see the religion for what it was. Also during this time I was beginning to question my own faith (Roman Catholicism) and its teachings, which led me to learn about other religions.
