Asalaamu alaykum

i need serious help! I am really addicted to junk! I just love chocolates and sweets so much. I know that this is not good for my health at all, but how do i stop. I always want to snack on chocolate. Plus i dont want any health problems in later life or have any teeth problems either. I can see another cavity forming, which got me worried.

I know that whatever i eat will cause my teeth to have an acid attack, thats why i should snack on chocolates with meals.
I want to cut down on chocolate, sweets, crisps, anything like that.

I brush twice daily, floss and also use a mouthwash, but because of me sugar intake i still have cavities. i have asked advice from dentist, but what they told me what i have just said here, which is really easier said than done.

what shall i do?

Assalamualaikum warahmatullaah

I am a chocolate/sugar junkie too but I go through phases. Sometimes i'll eat a disgusting amount and other times I'll have it once a week. I've noticed though, when i'm in my 'junk' phase im not eating my meals properly or im slacking off with exercise. When I make a real effort to have my meals and when I exercise, I tend to steer away from the stuff..like this evening I had a proper dinner, drank water and have been on my ex bike, I feel all healthy and sporty lol and not even my dh's Terrys Orange will tempt me  biggrin.gif  tongue.gif  (inshallaah!)

So I guess I'd advise to

a) Make a good effort to eat your meals properly

ermm and thats all  huh.gif

Assalamu alaykum sister

Everyone's teeth are a bit different.  It could be that your teeth are naturally more prone to cavities.
Also, the acid (don't know what it's called) mix in everyone's saliva is different as well, and this can help or hinder the plaque and other buildup on teeth.

I hope you are able to cut back on the sweets as you wish and that your teeth will be alright.

as-salamu aleykum sister,
i'm not a scientic, i have no prove, i heard just about those sugar and chocolat attacks which can be caused by lack of sunshine on you ( which has the same effect on hormones like chocolat), lack of vitamin b- complex, and calcium too, and the problem is more you have lack in calcium, more you eat sugar and more you eat sugar , more you have lack in calcium.
try to eat generally more healthier and inchAllah your body will get what he need and will ask less for junkfood. go slowly in changing your habitudes, but be constant.
eat whole wheal stuff for the vitmain b.
sugar is a real addiction, more you eat of it more you want it, so change slowly, but constantly. in your tea add honey instead of sugar, and so on...
inchAllah you will be succesfull in leaving junkfood a find yourself healthier than before!
salam your sister um-zakaria

Assalamu Alaikum:
I also have the same problem, sweets!! It can be very addictive and I find myself craving it very often. I guess this is why I had two cavities on my last dentist visit a few days ago. It especially bad during PMS time. When I go to the store, I see mostly junk food in my cart and less nutritious foods. I do need to cut down a lot, but its very hard, so I guess we are in the same boat. Its also taken a toll on my weight.

The doctor says that I weigh too much for my height and I have to lose 20lbs, not good when you eat a lot of junk food, easier said than done, mashallah. I did come across this site fitmuslimah it was very informative and maybe we can both check it out inshallah and work together to "cut down on sweets". You are not alone. wub.gif

Salam Sister Naz14,

I have found that eating sweets from a more natural source has helped me to curb the cravings for junks.

For example, instead of running to the nearest candy, I pick up a green apple. The juiciness and sweetness of the apple somehow soothens my junky toothe.

I also find that right after drinking green tea without sugar, I have no desire to take sweets, chocs or any salty tid bits.
