Asalaamu Alaykum,
Have any of you sisters been able to find babies or childrens toys that do not contain music? If so, what are some that do not have it?
Barakallahu feeki in advance.

Assalamualakum,
I'm still trying to plan out a nursery inshallah, if everything goes well, and I haven't found too much trouble in finding mobiles and things that play nature sounds instead of music. A lot of the new baby swings and playyards now come with an MP3 hookup so you can play whatever you like for the baby.
I still haven't reached the stage where I'm thinking about baby toys and games although I'm confident that there are toy books and dolls/stuffed animals that talk and laugh rather then play music.

i tried so hard to keep away images and music in the beginning... but people muslim and not kept on buying it and now my house is filled with all sorts of things like that.. you will see that there is hardly a need to ever buy toys coz friends and family will end up buying SOOO many for you. it gets really annoying! anyhow...
the best things are stacking blocks, the tower that you place rings of different sizes on, crayons and paper, balls, etc.. i really like wooden toys.
i just saw this website on an add but theres some good toys there... www.kidsmartshop.com
sometimes these basic toys are more fun. the new stuff with all the sounds and music and movement and colors don't leave any room for imagination
walaikum asalaam,
i also was given a bunch of toys like this.
whe n i wash my kids toys, i usually just throw them in the washer (soft toys) or in the bathtub with the kids (hard toys) and let them wash them. that pretty much fixes the music issue

Assalamu aliakum,
assalamu alaykum
lol good idea.. but is it dangerous?
That's exactly what I was thinking... great idea! But what about batteries in water and stuff like that?
Oh, now you made me think. I'll ask my husband, but all of those toys have those kind of watch batteries that you can't remove. The kinds that have the double and triple A batteries, etc, you can take them out anyways. But, for what its worth, I've been doing it for almost 6 years and haven't seen any eletrical issues, ALHAMDULLILAH MASHA ALLAH... but ill look into it insha allah to make sure it isn't a risk. jzakikum alahu khair.

again, like the clothing issue you can find plenty of stuff without music; including rockers, bouncing chairs and things like that. The toys with music or sound that require batteries are not good for the environment, and they did a study in the UK that said most of them are actually so loud for the baby they can damage their hearing. Don't think your child has to have the 'super duper jungle bouncy swing chair' by Fisher Price or it will harm their development because it really won't. Toys that are good for the imagination are far better. Many stationary 'walkers', activity stations and such require you to assemble all the parts including the musical parts; usually they will have a little circuitboard with a symbal looking thing on it; this is the thing that makes the music so if you break it off the music is gone but the lights and other features will still work. Rattles and things without chiming sounds are also easily available; the Sassy brand is good (I know they have this in the US) and many brands such as Playskool and Tomy do more traditional type toys.

Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullaah
Even if someone bought a toy with music in, we would either throw it away, remove the batteries or my dh would bang it here and there to stop the buttons that played music.. Its worked so far.. Music is something you really need to control with kids.. nowadays most learning toys are marketed on the principle that music helps them to learn.. dont fall for it, your child will naturally enjoy the jingles, start dancing and become attached to music.. Something that will be hard for you to combat.. So it is definitely something to be very strict on..
We have bought many wooden toys, like an activity play cube:

there are lots of things out there, you just have to think outside the box!
One important thing i learnt though, is not to bombard you child with loads of toys, it will actually restrcit their development. Select carefully the toys for your child, and keep refreshing them. Ie. put some away and leave some out, then swap after a few weeks. Try to avoid over flowing toy boxes and junk toys that dont do much for your child..

fisher price had this aquarium when my daughter was born 6 years ago. It played music and also ocean sounds. It had 6 different settings 3 with music and 3 with ocean sounds... you could program it anyway you want. It also had a bunch of plastic fishes "swimming" in the "water" and dim lights. My kids have all loved it and we just don't use the music setting... It calmed my second daughter to sleep every night.
I have a fisher price little people discovery city. I really like it coz it has the Little People song but there is no music (i listened real carefully) its just being sung without any instruments.... My kids LOVE it!
