Hi,

My name is Masha'ael and I'm originally British but lived all my life in Kuwait.

I converted to Islam when I was 18 after studying it in High School in Kuwait (I'm 21 now)

I never regretted it although I'm not the best muslim in the world. I read the Quran and I've fasted ever since I was 15 but I do not pray sad.gif I hate to admit that but each day I'm learning

I became Muslim because I believed in it and I was lost and when  I said the shahada I felt like a weight was taken off of me and I became a new person.

The trouble is, my family do not know, only my friends know because my family are extremely anti-arab and muslim and I'm scared to tell them incase I lose them.

I'm planning to get married next year to a muslim guy I met 2 years ago and we made zawaj mot3a (temporary marriage) because his family is an extremely religious shia family. My family do not know this either and each day that kills me and his do not know either because they hate 'western' girls. So everything is complicated :|

Even though I converted, I do not know if I'm Sunni or Shia although I studied Sunni and believe 50/50 in each sect.

It's nice to meet you all, and I really hope that I meet other sisters who converted.

Sorry for the long speech smile.gif

                    Salam aleikum,

welcome to the forum, sister Ananyah  biggrin.gif

I am a Norwegian revert and I live in Kuwait too  smile.gif  I am so excited to know that you're in Kuwait as well.

I reverted 19 months ago al-hamdulillah and that's definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am married and have a 15 mos old son.

Sister, I'd really advise you to get started praying. That's really the most important thing you should do as a Muslim. Even if that means you have to pray in secret because of your family you should start praying. May Allah make it easy for you.

Personally I would advise you to follow Sunnism, to follow the Quran and sunnah, as that's the true and original Islam. I am sure other sisters will advise you further on this.

Please feel free to PM me any time, sister.

                    [i]Asalaam Alaikum Sister,

Welcome to the forum-InshAllah i hope you will find it beneficial to your needs smile.gif

There is so much to learn in life sister-we never do stop learning and i hope inshAllah by becoming a member to this site you will learn more about Islam and also inshAllah the sisters are always willing to answer any questions you may have-
I also must add tht i agree with Sister Yamina smile.gif
You should start praying-as only in prayers do we find solace and comfort-
and if we turn to Allah inshAllah all will go well.

I hope inshAllah tht some of the other sisters give you ideas on how to slowly reveal your beliefs to your parents-

Take Care Sister-
Much Love- May Allah protect you inshAllah.

                    Asalam Alaikum,
welcome to the forum and I am glad that Allah (swt) guided you to this site.
You must be practicing the Shia religion because there are No Temporary marriages in the Sunni Islam for the Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessing be upon him) outlawed them. The only ones that practice this type of marriage are the Shia.
If you studied in Kuwait the majority of the country is Sunni, although there are some Shia there.  If you are Shia than you are not upon what Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jummat are upon. And I would hope that you would try to study about the religion of Islam to try to understand which one you are because not all sects of Islam follow what the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was upon. I may be able to help you with this for I have studied both religions in depth. And understand the difference between these two. And yes their are Major differences between them.
