Salam Alaikum Sisters

I have recently found out that receiving child benefit is haram.  I am aware of the exceptions to this rule, however my case is not one of them.  My question is directed at the proofs surrounding this: what are they?, also is this an ijma' (consensus).
Finally i presume all tax credits carry the same ruling, is this correct?

Assalamou aleikoum waRahmatoullah wa Barakatou,

I am bumping this one up, because I am curious about it and I do not have an answer yet....Did you get any proof of this, sis????
I'll pm a sister whose dh have some connection to scholars.....

I have heard also long time ago that unemployement benefit is haraam, but then it was explained to me that it is haraam when people are taking it and work ''on the side'', or when they take it and they are fine to work, this is kind of a lie, it makes sense, but child benefit????? I am just    I really do not know, it is something given to everyone, not something that we ask for...... :?

Assalamu alaikum,

Please can you tell us who told you that? and what is their proof? Are they people who can make fatwa?

I have very surprised that anybody says that it is haraam when the first to introduce Child Benefit was Umar bin al-Khattaab.

However, there are some people in the UK who:

1. work under one name and claim unemployment benefit under another name - this is not acceptable

2. claim that they are separated from their wives so that she claim income support and he works - again this is unacceptable

I will try to ask about it but those who claim it is haraam have to bring the proof. Furthermore, they shouldn't use the word haraam but not acceptable because the word haraam belongs to Allah and His Messenger (saws)
