Salaam Aliekum Dear Sisters,

Sis. Beauty,  More than happy to help you out when and where I can. biggrin.gif

I'd like to comment on the tanning idea first~~
I would not recommend you lay out in the sun for the following reasons:

 1.  As you say your yard is not fully screened and secure from peeping eyes.  This in itself makes doing so a NO-NO.

 2.  Sunning your skin leads to skin damage (such as early signs of age a.k.a. wrinkles!  sad.gif )  I suggest you save your skin and find other fun activities which are halal. <~~My own personal opinion.

 3.  Over exposure to sun can lead to skin cancer, which I am unsure of whether or not constitutes as haram as this in my own opinion is something that could very well be forbidden~~~when we are aware of the potential harms and affects of doing so.   Of course will have to further investigate this. InshaAllah.

 Having said that, I have hunted down some Fatwa for you concerning your swimming idea.  I am aware of the fact that other Sisters here do swim~~I am not one of em however so I can not offer you any ideas on safe swimming for Muslimahs.  InshaAllah other Sisters will be of more help in this area. :?:

  Ahhh and lastly, the tanning bed idea?  Hmmmm I have no idea how safe this is either.  :?   Will look into this further, InshaAllah.

Hugz to you,
Nivea

Question :

It is possible to go to public beaches and pools, even if you wear something that properly covers you and you do not pay attention to what others are wearing.

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.
You should note – may Allaah bless you – that the Muslim is commanded to protect his religious commitment and to keep away from places of fitnah (temptation). Going to these beaches is haraam because of the uncovering of ‘awrahs and careless mixing between men and women that happen there.

Moreover these places are filled with evil things, so it is not permissible for you to go there, unless you are going to enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; if he cannot, then with his heart [by hating it and feeling that it is wrong] – and that is the weakest of faith.”
(Narrated by Muslim, 49)

If you stay with them without enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil, then you are partaking in sin with them. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur’aan) that when you hear the Verses of Allaah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allaah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell”

[al-Nisa’ 4:140]

This verse indicates that whoever sits in a sinful gathering and does not denounce them shares the burden of sin equally with them. He should denounce them if they engage in sinful talk or sinful actions. If he is unable to denounce them then he should get up and leave them.
(Tafseer al-Qaasimi, 5/526)

Do not let the Shaytaan deceive you and make you say that you will not pay any attention to what other people are wearing. This is the deception of the Shaytaan, because if a person goes (to such places) his gaze will inevitably fall upon something that makes his Lord angry. A man may look at something unintentionally, but the Shaytaan can use this glance to great effect and make it the means that leads to fitnah, Allaah forbid. I ask Allaah to grant us and you refuge from being led astray by fitnah, and to make us steadfast.

May Allaah send blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his family and companions.

And Allaah knows best.

Question :

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah
Are Women allowed to swim in a secluded place together?
If yes. How are they supposed to dress as any dress will stick to the body when wet. Please explain in detail
Wassalaam

Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.

Anything that could be a source of temptation among women must be prevented. So their swimming in clothes that do not cover their ‘awrah (parts of the body which must be covered) properly because they stick to the body is something that is not allowed. If they swim in clothes that cover them, in a place far from the gaze of men, and cover themselves as soon as they come out of the water so that others will not see them in clothes that show the shape or colour of their ‘awrah, then there is nothing wrong with this so long as they adhere to the shar’i conditions. And Allaah knows best.

Salaam Aliekum Sis,

Thought to add this one as well.  InshaAllah helps to clear up some of your questions.

Nivea

Question :

I need to know for school, What it's like for a fundamentalist Muslim (a teenage girl) living in australia. The difficulties she might face living in a country where such things as the laws are based on christianity.

Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.

Muslim girls living in Christian countries may be faced with a number of problems and difficulties, such as:

 Difficulty in wearing hijaab (Islamic dress code)

 Difficulty in studying without having to mix with the opposite sex

 Difficulty in getting married according to Islamic law

 Difficulty in getting divorced according to Islamic law

 Difficulty in receiving her financial rights, such as inheritance, according to Islamic law

 Difficulty in finding Muslim friends who could help her adhere to her religion

 Difficulty in finding halaal meat that has been slaughtered in accordance with Islamic law, or finding some foodstuffs, such as sweets etc., that are not mixed with alcohol or lard (pork fat)

 Difficulty in doing some sports, such as swimming, in a place that is screened from the view of men

 Difficulty and embarrassment in avoiding invitations to unsuitable parties such as Christian holidays and mixed wedding parties

These and many other challenges are faced by Muslim girls living in countries such as those referred to in the question, but they do not prevent a Muslim girl at all from making the effort and striving to follow her religion and heed its prohibitions. She will receive multiple rewards from Allaah for her efforts in the face of hardship and her patience. The bitterness of patience will ultimately be followed by the sweet joy which will make her forget the pain of hardship. Allaah is the One Whom we ask for help.

Salaam Aliekum Sister Beauty,

A correction as I thought (for some strange reason) you had mentioned tanning beds...but just noticed you said  "fake tan" a.k.a  SELF TANNING LOTIONS  ......so disregard the tanning bed comment made.    laugh.gif

In  any case I have to say that you may very well appreciate limiting your time in the sun~~especially as you grow older and you start to notice those unsightly 'fine lines and wrinkles'.

Salaam Aliekum Sis,

:!: I found some interesting information about sun tanning and the affects on skin.  IN PART:

More skin-savvy tips:

 Avoid the sun between 10:00am and 3:00pm, when the sun's rays are strongest.

 Use sunscreen even on cloudy days - UV rays can penetrate cloud cover.

 If you can, opt for a seat in the shade.

 If you're fair skinned or know you burn easily, keep covered and avoid the sun.

 Use lip balm with sunscreen - your lips contain no melanin and will burn easily.

 Wear clothing made of tightly woven fabric so the sun can't slip in.

 Try to avoid reflective surfaces, such as water and sand, which can reflect as much as 85 percent of the sun's rays.

 Be aware that certain medications, including some antibiotics, dramatically increase sun sensitivity. Check with your doctor.

 And don't forget your eyes! Wear sunglasses that provide 100 percent UV protection, to prevent eye cancer or cataracts, which may result in blindness.

The only safe way to enjoy the summer sun is to keep yourself covered. Skin cancer is no day at the beach, so don't let your summer fun cloud your future health.

as-salaam aleikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

about tanning beds... my sister works at a hospital and some doctors there were telling some women there who were talking about going to tanning beds, "if you have been in a tanning bed even just once, you expect to get skin cancer later on"

That is a little bit exaggerated...Due to a skin disorder...I have had to spend a lot of time under UVA and UVB type tanning lights...The risk from these are the same as the risk from regular sunlight...

Word of warning though...some people tend to tan naked in tanning beds...it is not recommended...not only because of germs...but also because women who tan without at least underwear on a tanning bed are more likely to get cancer of the vulva...It is more common in women who use tanning beds because most women who tan outside normally cover this area.

Buy  a good sized bottle of a mid priced /expensive tanning lotions. best ones are clinque, st tropex and fake bake. dont go for cheap. cheap tans make you streaky , cheapy and orange.
exfolitate well, then rub drown and moisturise dry bits.
apply tan all over with someone to help. use gloves or applicator sponge.
now for the wudu issue. apply tan late at night after you have prayed isha and you know u wont be using water. then sleep in the whole gunk and wash it off in a pre fajr shower.
there you go, ur tanned tongue.gif

Salam alaikum, why not keep your own natural color?
Why tan?
Why would you want to tan?  It will ruin your skin!
I spent my summers in the beach at a beach home when I was young and was always well colored, but I am fine with myself without the color too!
2 of my daughters are slightly naturaly light bronze, everyone has their natural beauty mashallah!

I have the BEST solution....
BUT FIRST!!  I used to go to those tanning beds alll the time when I was a little younger and now I realize why take the risk...the thing is they are private (no one can see you unclothed) but they do cause skin cancer as much as the sun...and women who do it a lot you can tell...are wrinkly and leather skinned...so anyway

Self-Tanners are a good alternative but can get streaky and orange tan.

THE BEST!!!!!! Spray on 30sec (or 60 sec Tan) Don't last really that long and may be pricy (not too much though) but my friends have gone and it is great!  And natural looking. Here is some info.  www.tanright.com I think orrr any mist on tanning and you are in a booth al alone!!!!! Just follow the instructions smile.gif

Take Care,
Kasey
