I am a new muslimah, and this is my first Ramadan.  i know that it is not allowed for a menstruating woman to fast and pray while on her period, but my question is what if her purity comes in the middle of the day?

Salam alikom

Her period or nifaas stopped after Fajr – what should she do?

Question :

If a woman’s period or nifaas stops straight after Fajr, should she refrain from eating and fast that day? Will it be counted as a fast or does she have to make it up later?

Answer :

Praise be to Allaah.

If her bleeding stops at the time of sunrise or shortly before, then her fast is valid and will count as one of the obligatory fasts, even if she does not do ghusl until after morning comes. But if it did not stop until after dawn had broken, then she should refrain from eating during that day, but it will not count as a fast and she will have to make it up after Ramadaan.

Salam alikom

Some say she can eat.

Question:

If a women becomes pure (from post-natal bleeding or menstruation) after dawn or at noon. Does she fast that day and does she start praying?.

Answer:

Al-Salâm `Alaykum wa Rahmah Allah wa Barakâtuh.

She starts praying on that day and resumes her fast on the following day.

She does not have to stop eating for the rest of the day, since  she is not fasting and there is no point to her not eating.
