[font=Comic Sans MS:524597a8da] [/font:524597a8da]Alsalamualkum,

If your one who has ever sat in front of the television, than you are sure to have seen the hundreds of different weight loss programs that are out there. I was hoping we could use this thread to review different programs any one of us might have used and to discuss the pros and cons. So let me start.

I order The Firm workout system after seeing the infomercial. I used it for about a month before we moved and things got a bit unsettled. I noticed my body firming up and that I wasn't out of breath as easily as before. I also noticed my strength level going up. When I first started I couldn't get even halfway through the easiest 45 minute workout. At the end of the month I was doing the medium one *almost* perfectly alhamdulillah. But I never noticed any really weight loss, probably partially becuase I didn't use it long enough. But I plan to get back on the program again soon and do some real damage to the fat I've got going on.

Well, please do share your experiences, what worked what didn't and let's all learn from each other inshallah.

Asalmu alikum,

I've learned in a nutrition course that most of these "weight loss" programs they advertise about don't work.

The best thing is to eat healthy according to the food pyramid, here's one:

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-al..._ciel_ga_e.html

Also, exercise A LOT.

another tip, is cut down on fats as much as possible. For example, buy low-fat dairy products instead of the normal ones. Try not to fry your food, use other options.

Insha Allah, this will work. :wink:

Assalaamu alaikum Sisters,

I am currently doing the Curves program.  I started the 6-week challenge 2 weeks ago.  The diet is very easy and the exercise program is too.  The curves diet has changed since last year.  Now it is more balanced than before, allowing more carbs than before.  There are 2 diets, one is higher protein and one is higher carb.  I am doing the higher protein one and my mom is doing the higher carb one.  The first week is 1200 calories per day plus an optional 190 calorie protein shake.  that is called phase one.  Phase 2 lasts until you lose all the weight you want to.  It is 1600 calories per day plus the optional protein shake.  The first week I lost 3 pounds only, but my body fat percentage went down 1.5%, which is a lot for one week.  This week I think I have lost 2 pounds, but I won't know till I go later for the weigh in.  You really get a lot to eat and you are eating real foods, not diet foods.  smile.gif  The plan is to eat 5 times a day to keep your metabolism up throughout the day.  On phase 3 after loosing the weight you want to, you follow the food pyramid and eat 2000-2500 calories per day.  Doing this diet, has really changed the way i look at eating and food.  I want to eat more healthy now, and I don't crave carbs anymore.  I only wanted chocolate once (and i think its because of the time of the month  biggrin.gif  ).  I really look for healthy food to eat instead of junk, and it's not so hard to resist when people offer me junk food.

If any of you want more information on this program, please PM me and I will en sha' Allah provide you with more information and sample menus, etc.

Assalamu Alaikum,

I found the food information very useful. Having put on a lot of weight over the last month due to feeling very low (chocolate bad!), am now cutting out junk food, eating recommended portions (u know, 25g cheese = one portion), and doing what exercise I can (get tired easily). Insha'allah i can lose some weight by august! If I had more money I would invest in following a diet plan, but I'm not. Just doing it the old fashioned way of only having cakes/sweets occasionally (which, in jessica language, is NOT occasionally every day  biggrin.gif )

Assalaamu alaikum,

Curves is about $30 per month.  I go there three times a week for exercise for about 30 minutes each time.  They put a sign on the door for any males to knock loudly before entering, so I don't have to worry about a man accidentally walking in.

Assalamu Alaikum,

Despite being unwell for a good week, and having a few 'naughty days', I've managed to lose a pound just by cutting out sweets/cakes from my diet! Alhumdullilah! Insha'allah it will continue! Which goes to show you don't need to join anything (especially if you're a broke student) to lose weight. (no, i haven't done any exercise either - due to illness plus i have to be careful with my health)
