As Salaam Alaykum,
I just found out from a friend that sour cream has gelatin in it and therefore not halal if the gelatin could be from pork.
I have never liked sour cream and never used it. The sister was working at a restaurant that served it and when she was in the storeroom to get some sour cream she read the ingredients on the box and it said it contained gelatin from different sources.
I never thought of sour cream as having gelatin, so this surprised me.

Yep, isn't it crazy? A lot of low-fat and nonfat foods have gelatin (among other mysterious ingredientes) in them!
I usually go for the regular or search the shelves for brands without gelatin (and there are some)

As Salaam Alaykum,
If the gelatin comes from pork it is. Many items that have gelatin say from whatever source is available. At least that is what I have been told. Even the gelatin in vitamins can be pork gelatin and there have been warnings about that. I was totally surprised because I thought sour cream was just a milk product.
It is good to know that you just need to check the labels on the shelfs and find one without gelatin.

I just noticed the other day about sour cream! ARGH! I found one brand that doesn't have it here though... dairlyland (the purple one) I think.
Also watch out for yogurt! Almost all of them have gelatin!

Salam alaikum,
I remember seeing gelatin in a cheap brand of sour cream...I guess they need to it thicken it.
We buy a name brand now, no gelatic, and it's always yummy! Some of those store brands are not good.

Assalam alaikum,
I live in Germany and Iīve never ever seen a sour cream with gelatin in it, but I did see it in some low fat fancy yogurts. So, I assume they donīt use it inshaAllah
