My cousin came over today and I was schocked to see her. SHe used to have very beautiful thick hair... and now its very very thin..
I asked her why, she says she doesnt know.. but its scaring her.. because soooooooo much fals out whenever she bruhes it or when ever she takes a shower...
SHes only 19.. and shes not married or anything..
Is there a way for her to help her hair..help thicken it.. or help it get health..

As Salaamu Alaikum,
Maybe she combs her hair wrong.  She should start from the ends.  If her hair isnt falling out because of that maybe she should see a doctor.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Has she lost a lot of weight?  that happened to my step sister....she was basically starving herself and her beautiful hair became thin and damaged.

yes she lost some weight.. but not to the extent that she starved herself..
do any of you have suggustions.. that might help her hair come back naturally thick and healthy?
oh ya.. and to mention the severity of the hair loss.. its now 1/4 of what it used to be... its scary subhanalah..

Asalamu Alaikum,

Do her a favour if she can't go online: google hair loss. There are two types (and they have sub-groups): alopecia and another one called TE for short. I cannot remember how to spell it out. She might have one of these.

Hair loss can also be caused by vitamin deficiency, weight loss, hormone imbalance, thyroid disorders, stress, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, change in diet, wearing tight hairstyles, damaging hair chemicals used in dyes or straighteners, etc etc etc.

So you see it can be a number of things. She should see her doctor, a dermatologist, and whatever specialist after getting a bunch of tests done to determine what may be the cause. (Like a endocrinologist if it's suspected to be hormone related.) Reading up on hair loss online will give you an idea what types of hair loss present what way, and what tests she should insist upon with her doctor, etc.

Honestly, her hair won't improve until the underlying cause is treated. And even then, with some conditions, she may never have her hair back.

There is no miracle cure, although there are tons of scams out there. The websites you visit (make sure they aren't commercial websites trying to sell you something--they will be biased) should outline what can and cannot work. (Aka, rogaine, propecia--although I don't know if they let women take that, birth control pills can either contribute to hair loss or sometimes slow it down, etc.)

Assalamo alaikom

Last year i had this also,,it was so bad,,every time i brushed my hair i had handfulls of hair      Really like 20-30 times the normal  :?

I went to the doctor who told me she thought its about stress (i was somehow stressed at the time),,she gave me vitamins and also some oil against it falling out. I had very bad periods at this time, losing a lot of blood, low white bloodcells,,lost weight,,maybe she has this also?? Cos i think maybe it was about this also.

I cant give u a solution for it tho,cos id lie if i say that i think the vitamins/oil did the trick,,cos they were just regular u-can-buy-it-anywhere things,,just it got better with time,,how long has she had it for?
I had it for i think 3 or 4 months and then it just dissapeard and ever since i dont have a problem with it anymore hamdulellah.

Someone told me it could have been about someone putting the evil eye on me,,but Allahu alem :?

I hope your cousin will be better soon  biggrin.gif

Yes sister hamdulellah my hair is totally back to normal  biggrin.gif

She can try to go to a doc,but i think all they will say is that she is stressed  :? Insh'Allah her hair will be back to normal, just tell her to be patient. Ive been through it and it made me so sad,so i know what she feels like, but insh'Allah it will not be like this forever. smile.gif

Salaam Aliekum Dear Sisters,

Sis samjurf, I'm kinda late in replying but wanted to tell you that I too suffered through this hair loss issue --- and at times still do.   I think perhaps much of it is caused by a tremendous amount of stress.

Another thing you may want to think about is the products your cousin may be using to clean her hair.  ORRRR the water in her area.   My water is loaded with chlorine and that definitely does not help.

As other Sisters here have mentioned, hair loss can be caused by any number of factors.....the best advice you could give to her is to seek some medical advice first.  InshaAllah everything is OK and she will find a solution.

Take Care,
Nivea

salam aleikum...

i am going thru this same thing even now. I'm sure mine is... well, all the above. stress, water, vitamin deficiency, etc. i'm trying to take better care. i've lost a lot of hair, and many other women i know are complaining of the same thing (even a friend's 12 yr old daughter!!!!) But one issue i had, which might be part of it? was dandruff (ok! i know, that is a symptom itself). i didn't have trouble with it, then moved to a new home and it was instantaneous... dry skin, itchy scalp... i've since moved but it's not improved. however, i just bought a new shampoo "Nyle" with Amla oil... it's from pakistan or india... i found it at Crescent Islamic Bookstore online... a bit expensive, but it works and smells great, and a little bit goes a long way. It immediately stopped the itching!!! and the dandruff flakes too. if anybody wants it, i can pass the website along. Amla oil supposedly helps strengthen the hair roots and helps your hair grow thicker... but other people would know more on this then me. smile.gif

salam alekum

before purchasing this shampoo, i briefly researched amla oil to see what it's benefits were. i also researched the shampoo. there was a website i found that critiqued it... one sis said she loved it, another said she didn't. myself, obviously, i love it. unfortunately, i didn't save any of the other sites. but here is the website for the crescent islamic books:
