i remember reading about why we do everything in 3s and why its better to do things in 3s, and it said because allah loves that, and it said that allah is witr.    i dont understand, what is that supposed to mean?  its been bothering me?   does anyone know what it means when it says that allah is witr.   or is this something that would fall under asking too many questions?

Question: As-Salaamu alaikum. A Sister is asking the folllowing question:

i remember reading about why we do everything in 3s and why its better to do things in 3s, and it said because allah loves that, and it said that allah is witr. i dont understand, what is that supposed to mean? its been bothering me? does anyone know what it means when it says that allah is witr. or is this something that would fall under asking too many questions?

Jazakum Allahu khairan,
WaSalaamu alaikum.

Dear questioner:

Al-Salâm `alaykum wa Rahmah Allah wa Barakâtuh.

The word “witr” which means an odd number, comes with the meaning of singularity. In the case of Allah, it means the only one who has no partner or anything similar to Him.

Allah prefers the odd number in the performance of good works and in many acts of worship.

He made prayers five, the number of washes in our ablutions three, Tawâf seven, Sa`î seven, throwing stones seven, the days of Mina (during Hajj) three. Shrouding of the body is also in three cloths and the reckoning of Zakâh for produce five units (wasq).

He also made some of His creations singular as the seven heavens and seven earths, the seven seas and the numbers of days of the week, in addition to many more.

It is said that the meaning is that it is indicative of one who worships Allah alone with strict, sincere, and faithful monotheism.

And Allah knows best.
