Assalaam alaikum,
Sister, how far along were you in the pregnancy before miscarrying?
For your sister, there is nothing that prevents her from praying the funeral prayer, insha' Allah, as long as she is Muslim of course.
The funeral prayer is done standing, there is no bowing or prostration.

Assalaam alaikum,
May Allah grant that this child is an intercessor for you in the Hereafter and grant you patience.
This may help:
Question :
How should we make du’aa’ in the funeral prayer if it is offered for a male or a female or for two people, or if the deceased is a child?.
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
Du’aa’ should be made for all the deceased, whether males or females, by saying “Allaahumma aghfir lahum warhamhum… (O Allaah forgive them and have mercy on them…)”. If they are two you should say, ‘Allaahumma aghfir lahuma warhamhuma… (O Allaah, forgive them both and have mercy on them both…)”.
If the deceased is a child, what should be said in the du’aa’ is: “Allaahumma aj’alhu dhikhran li waalidayhi wa faratan wa shafee’an mujaaban. Allaahumma a’zim bihi ujoorahuma wa thaqqil bihi mawaazeenahuma wa alhaqhu bi saalih salaf al-mu’mineen waj’alhu fi kafaalat Ibraaheem ‘alayhi’l-salaam, wa qihi bi rahmatika ‘adhaab il-jaheem (O Allaah, make him a stored treasure for his parents, and a preceding reward and an answered intercessor. O Allaah, increase their reward through him and make their scales weigh heavily. Join him with the righteous believers who have gone on before, place him in the care of Ibraaheem, peace be upon him, and protect him from the torment of Hell by Your mercy).”

Assalaam alaikum,
Question :
Should a child be washed and the janaazah (funeral) prayer be offered for him? Please note that the child is 8 years old.
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
A child should be washed and the funeral prayer offered for him according to all the scholars. Ibn Qudaamah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that there was no dispute concerning this matter. Ibn al-Mundhir narrated that there was consensus among the scholars that a child should be prayed for. See al-Mughni, 3/458.
When the prayer is offered for a child, there should be no prayer for forgiveness, and it should not be said in the prayer “Allaahumma aghfir lahu (O Allaah forgive him),” because no sins were recorded for him. Rather prayers should be said for forgiveness and mercy for his parents. That is because of the report narrated by Abu Dawood (3180) and al-Tirmidhi (1031) from al-Mugheerah ibn Shu’bah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The funeral prayer should be offered for him and prayers should be said for forgiveness and mercy for his parents.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Ahkaam al-Janaa’iz, p. 73. See also question no. 13985.
And Allaah knows best. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions.

Assalaam alaikum,
Question :
Before she died, my wife miscarried a foetus aged four months. She took the foetus and buried it without praying for it. Please advise me as to whether I have to do anything.
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
The foetus should have been washed, shrouded and prayed for, according to the correct scholarly view, so long as it had reached the age of four months, because of the general meaning of the report narrated by Abu Dawood and al-Tirmidhi from al-Mugheerah ibn Shu’bah (may Allaah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The miscarried foetus should be prayed for.” But the time for doing that has passed, so you do not have to do anything.
And Allaah is the Source of strength. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad.

Assalaam alaikum,
Question :
Is it permissible to delay burying the deceased until some of his relatives come from other cities, at their request?
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
It is not permissible to delay (burial) except within the limits of what is needed to prepare him or to wait for his relatives or neighbours to come, if that will not take too long according to local custom, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Hasten to bury your dead….” This hadeeth was narrated by Maalik and Ahmad, 2/240; and by al-Bukhaari, 2/87-88. It is not permitted to hold a “wake” for him, or to set up pavilions (for mourners to gather), i.e., so called mourning rituals. Those who could not attend the funeral may pray over his grave, if he was in the city where he was, within a period of two months, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed over the grave of Umm Sa’d one month after her burial.

Assalaam alaikum,
Question :
Please explain to us how the funeral prayer is to be offered, as reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), because many people do not know about it.
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) explained how the funeral prayer is to be done. It is done as follows:
You say the first Takbeer (“Allaahu akbar”), then you seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan, then you say Bismillah ir-Rahmaan ir-Raheem and recite al-Faatihah followed by a short soorah or some aayahs. Then you say Takbeer and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) as one does at the end of the prayer. Then you say a third Takbeer and make du’aa’ for the deceased. The best is to say:
“Allaahumma ighfir lihaayina wa mayitina wa shaahidina wa ghaa’ibina wa sagheerina wa kabeerina wa dhakarina wa unthaana. Allaahumma man ahyaytahu minna fa ahyihi ‘ala’l-Islam wa man tawaffaytahu minna fa tawiffahu ‘ala’l-eemaan.
(O Allaah, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allaah, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive in Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith. O Allaah, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honour the place where he settles and make his entrance wide; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allaah, give him a house better than his house and a family better than his family. O Allaah, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light. O Allaah, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this).”
All of this was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). If you make du’aa’ with other words, this is OK, for example, you could say, “Allaahumma in kaana muhsinan fa zid fi ihsaanihi wa in kaana musee’an fa tajaawaz ‘an sayi’aatihi. Allaahumma ighfir lahu wa thabbit-hu bi’l-qawl il-thaabit (O Allaah, if he was a doer of good, then increase his good deeds, and if he was a wrongdoer, then overlook his bad deeds. O Allaah, forgive him and give him the strength to say the right thing).” Then you say a fourth Takbeer and pause for a little while, then you say one Tasleem to the right, saying “Assalaamu ‘alaykum wa rahmat-Allaah.”

Assalaam alaikum,
Question :
Someon has just had an abortion, is it permissioble for her to fast or does she have to wait a certain period of time?.
Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.
It is not permissible for a woman who is bleeding following childbirth to fast, and her fast is not valid. She has to make up the days that she missed because of nifaas (post-partum bleeding).
Nifaas is the blood passed by a woman because of childbirth.
But if a woman miscarries (or has an abortion), the blood that she passes is not considered to be nifaas unless the foetus had human features.
Human features do not appear in the foetus before eighty days of pregnancy, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The creation of any one of you is put together in his mother’s womb for forty days, then he becomes a ‘alaqah (a piece of thick coagulated blood) for a similar period, then he becomes like a chewed piece of flesh for a similar period, then Allaah sends an angel who is enjoined to write down four things, and it is said to him: ‘Write down his deeds, his provision, his lifespan and whether he is doomed for Hell or destined for Paradise. Then the soul is breathed into him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3208.
This hadeeth indicates that a human being goes through a number of stages during pregnancy.
For forty days he is a nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge, for the next forty days he is a ‘alaqah (a piece of thick coagulated blood), then for forty days he is a mudghah (a lump of chewed flesh), then the soul is breathed into him after one hundred and twenty days have passed.
Human features begin to appear at the mudghah stage, not before that, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O mankind! If you are in doubt about the Resurrection, then verily, We have created you (i.e. Adam) from dust, then from a Nutfah (mixed drops of male and female sexual discharge, i.e. the offspring of Adam), then from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood) then from a little lump of flesh — some formed and some unformed (as in the case of miscarriage) — that We may make (it) clear to you (i.e. to show you Our Power and Ability to do what We will)”
[al-hajj 22:5]
Allaah described the mudghah as being formed and unformed. What is meant by formed is that there appear on the embryo traces of how the body will look, such as the head, limbs, etc.
Based on this, if this woman had an abortion, if that happened before eighty days of pregnancy, then the blood she passes is not the blood of nifaas, rather it is istihaadah (non-menstrual bleeding) which does not stop her from praying and fasting, but she has to do wudoo’ for each prayer.
If the abortion took place after the soul was breathed into the foetus – i.e., after one hundred and twenty days of pregnancy – then the blood is definitely nifaas.
If the abortion took place between eighty and one hundred and twenty days, then the embryo should be examined. If it has human features then the blood is nifaas, and if it does not then the blood is istihaadah.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his essay al-Dima’ al-Tabee’iyyah li’l-Nisa’ (The Natural Blood of Women), p. 40:
Nifaas is not established unless the embryo expelled has human features. If she expels a small embryo that has no human features then her bleeding is not nifaas, rather it is bleeding from a vein, so it comes under the same ruling as istihaadah. The earliest at which human features may appear is eighty days from the beginning of pregnancy, but it usually happens at ninety days.
The woman in nifaas has to stop praying and fasting until she becomes pure. When the bleeding stops and she becomes pure, she should do ghusl and pray and fast. If the bleeding lasts for more than forty days, if the additional bleeding coincides with her usual menstrual cycle then it is hayd (menstruation); if it does not coincide with her usual cycle then it is istihaadah, so she should do ghusl and pray and fast, and do everything that women who are taahir (pure) do.
See question no. 10488, 37662.
And Allaah knows best.
