Assalamu alaikum...

I have been sitting here over the last few days and I have been thinking ( i know that is scary all on its own tongue.gif )....I have been wondering why it is so hard for people...myself in particular...to commit myself to Islam like the Prophet (SAW) and his companions did...

I mean I pray my 5 times a day...make du'aa...say dhikr...read Quran...I do those things...but when I read stories about early Islam...everything they did it seems was about the religion...

So often excuses are made to be late for prayer...or read to wait to read Quran...or to shorten the time spent doing these things...We now have playstation and our computers and cell phones and etc. etc. etc.

My question is what can we do to encourage ourselves and each other to be more like the Prophet (SAW) and his companians?

I read a story the other day...I think it was on this site about a man who was stabbed while praying...he finished his prayers and then went home...I am afraid that if that would have been me...my prayers would not have been finished that day (astagfirullah).....

If my post sounds judgmental of others...i apologize...I don't know what is anyones heart nor what they do....My comments about ourselves and others is there because I am pretty sure that their are others here who feel the same as me...that no matter how much I do..I feel that it is no where near enough.

Assalamu ALikum warahmatu Allahi wabarakatu

sister, they had such deep eman in Allah and His Prophet. They were described as the best of the ummah... we must accept that.

But we can always strive by undertaking the necessary causes for increasing eman.
1. Seeking Knowledge
2. Righteous deed.
3. Remeberance of Allah and Thinking about his creation.
(this sis based on the Book of Eman by Ibn Taymiyah).

Also think of Islam as a way of life. it is for everywhere and every time. if you feel that something distracts you from your sole reason of creation (worshipping Allah) then stay away from it.

Ask Allah to help you... this is very important:

We remember what the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam told Mu’adh radhiallahu anhu when he said, “ Oh Mu’adh, I love you.” Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wasallam said, “I advise you, Oh Mu’adh, say at the end of every prayer, ‘Oh Allah, aid me in Your remembrance, Your thanks, and in perfecting Your worship.’” ( Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Al-Nisa’ii).

In arabic: 'Allahummah a'inee 'alla dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika"

Mariam
