Assalaamu alaikum,
Well this is a first for me... I have taken some quail out of the freezer for dinner tonight. I do have a couple of recipes to follow insha'Allah but I am interested to know if anyone else has ever cooked quail? How did you cook them?

Assalaamu alaikum,
Oh gosh, I feel really guilty and mean now!
Anyway, I couldn't be bothered about following any recipe. I just cut out the backbone with kitchen scissors, flattened the birds out and fried them in a couple of spoons of olive with salt and pepper, it took less than 10 mins to cook them. I served them with a bit of pasta in Italian sauce. It was quite nice, the meat is dark and quite tasty, my two year old really liked it and so did my middle daughter and dh was surprised there was so much meat on the breast.
I have actually seen quails in the freezer section of the halal shop in the UK so they are available halal outside of KSA. I think they are also quite popular in Egypt...

I guess you mean where did I see them in the UK?? I saw them in a Bengali halal shop in Leicestershire so that'd be a bit of a trek from London if that's where you still are!
Here in KSA, I just bought them in the supermarket.

the quails sold in egypt are much bigger and more tastier than those sold outside of egypt.
in egypt, they stuff them with rice and then put them in boiling water (with onions and tomatoes) and then fry them in a bit of oil (not deep fry).

Quails are very popular in Egypt and my hubby loves them. My MIL stuffes them with rice ( some other stuff with the rice I think would be fresh coriander, parsley, onions, salt, pepper....), then cooks them in water like chicken. When they are done she fries them in butter to give them a nice colour.

Assalamu alaykum,
my hubby keeps talking about eating baby pigeons. I think now he must mean quail. Pigeons for me are so disgusting, they eat anything. I cant imagine stuffing one with rice and eating it. Maybe quail.
